The Legal Ombudsman

If we have not resolved your complaint to your satisfaction within 8 weeks, or you are unhappy with our final response, you can ask the Legal Ombudsman to look into it. The Legal Ombudsman is an independent body that deals with complaints about legal service providers. This service is free to use.

Time limits apply — you must refer your complaint:

  • within 6 months of receiving our final written response to your complaint; and
  • within 1 year of the act or omission you are complaining about, or within 1 year of when you should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority

The Legal Ombudsman deals with poor service. If your concern is about our conduct or behaviour — for example dishonesty, losing your money, or treating you unfairly because of your age, a disability or another protected characteristic — you can raise it with the Solicitors Regulation Authority at any time: sra.org.uk/consumers/problems/report-solicitor.
